I had some grand delusions.

the lady of the mountains called to me without a sound
her heart song ringing clear across the ocean
she christened me a noble name, and gave me a commission
i pledged to soothe her soul with my devotion
I fell into her bed one night, with fiery skies above
she knew that I was given to another
I wound my way into her heart and made it burst asunder
We both bled as I ran back to my lover

I had some grand delusions
and i never could resist
the melody of a broken heart

The maiden of the lake came to me with a song
She sang me stories of her broken past
I didn’t know the strength of what she’d trusted me to hold
I ripped the stitches she’d sewn on too fast
she led me deep into her dreams, and i disturbed her sleep
with visions of the shame she’d locked away
i couldn’t bring her breath back, so I walked into the night
praying for the stars to light my way

I held my grand delusions,
I still could not resist
the melody…..

I thought I was a healer, once
could cure what ails you with a touch
kiss your eyes and make you whole,
smooth the cracks inside your soul
but don’t you know my untrained hand
will find your weakness and expand
like ice until it blows you open
leave you cold exposed and broken

the warrior of the city wasn’t looking for my help
her eyes betrayed the weight of what she carried
i tried my best to help her, it even worked a while
but the demons of the past do not stay buried
I had to break my promises, although it broke my heart
I tell myself that I gave my all
I do not know, up to this day, if she’s alive or dead
And that has been my burden to recall

Do you see my grand delusions?
